It’s 1992 and Los Angeles is burning. Noah Valentine, the owner of Pinx Video in Silver Lake, notices the fires have taken their toll on fellow shopkeeper Guy Peterson’s camera shop. After the riots end, he decides to stop by Guy’s apartment to pick up his overdue videos, only to find Guy’s family dividing up his belongings. He died in the camera store fire—or did he? Noah and his downstairs neighbors begin to suspect something else might have happened to Guy Peterson. Something truly sinister.

The first in a new series from Lambda Award-winner Marshall Thornton, Night Drop strikes a lighter tone than the Boystown Mysteries, while bringing Silver Lake of the early 1990s to life.

Look out Jessica Fletcher (Angela Landsbury's character in Murder, She Wrote)! You have some competition from Noah Valentine for amateur sleuth of the year!

This excellently-crafted mystery has more twists and turns that a bag of curly fries.

From the beginning it kept me guessing as to the outcome of Noah's investigation.

I enjoyed reading Night Drop right up to the very end. I didn't like the ending. I understand Noah having to taking responsibility and making the choices he had to make. I wish he didn't have to, but then again things happen.

Please do not use my dislike of the ending to dissuade you from reading Night Drop. No matter how hard you try, you just can't please everybody, and sometimes I can be hard to please.

I give Night Drop 4 out of 5 stars and DO recommend it.
