A man without memories, and the cop who never gave up hope.
When he wakes up in hospital, the victim of a brutal beating, John Doe, has no memories of who he is or who hurt him. The cops can find nothing to identify him and he can't remember anything to help... except the name Ethan and one recurring place from his dreams. Three words, and they're not much, but it's a start. Crooked Tree Ranch.
Cop, Ethan Allens has never stopped searching for his brother and his brother's best friend who vanished. When a report lands on Ethan's desk that may give new leads he jumps at the chance to follow them up. The man he finds isn't his brother, but it's someone who could maybe help him discover what happened ten years ago.
What neither man can know is that facing the very real demons of the past could very well destroy any kind of future they may think they have together.

As
I stated in my review of Crooked Tree Ranch, I
have read many book series. The Montana series is rapidly becoming one
of my favorites, along with another of RJ Scott's incredible series, the
Sanctuary series.
As to be expected, the characters are very complex and very real. One if the things I was surprised to see that with the interaction of the characters who are the primary focus of this book, more depth is added to the existing characters.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to lose your memory completely?
Would you feel frustrated and angry when the few bits of returning memory are trivial while the important memories remain hidden?
How would you handle having all of your memories return at once? How would you process them?
This is what Adam deals with on a daily basis. I, and I'm sure several other readers have wondered how would we cope with this?
Ms. Scott takes us on a powerfully written story that focuses around Adam's lost memories and the impact it has on everyone around him, especially Ethan, who has loved Adam since they were kids.
As with her other series, you don't have to read Crooked Tree Ranch to understand what's happening in The Rancher's Son, but doing so will definitely add to the enjoyment of the book.

This book is a definite 5 on the 1-5 scale. Read it. You won't be disappointed.
Oh, and Ms. Scott? That little teaser at the end about A Cowboy's Home and making us wait until October to finally read about (and I'm guessing here) what happened to Justin is cruel and unusual punishment! :)
