If you have just come across my blog and would like to read the entire story, you can click here to get to the Wednesday briefs page.
Here is a sneak peek at what you'll find in chapter 11:
“Mr. Evans, I
hate to cause you any more pain than you’ve experienced so far, but I must ask,
how did you come to be at the defendant’s apartment?”
Ethan’s response
was slow in coming and came in a voice completely devoid of any emotion. “It
was a celebration of our second anniversary.”
“Who, with the
exception of yourself and Mr. Sims, were the men in the video?”
“Friends of
Patrick’s.”
“And did you
know these men?”
“No. I was
introduced to them as they came in.”
“So you didn’t
know any of them?”
“Objection Your Honor! The witness has
already told us that he didn’t know the men.”
“Sustained.
Please continue, Counsellor.”
“Mr. Evans, did
you, in fact, offer yourself up for sex with Mr. Sims’ friends as an
anniversary present?”

Chapter 10 of my new Wednesday Brief's story is now on line. You can read it by clicking here.
If you have just come across my blog and would like to read the entire story, you can click here to get to the Wednesday briefs page.
Here is a sneak peek at what you'll find in chapter 10:
Ethan, Chris,
Troy and Alicia, having already seen the video, were as prepared as anyone
could be. Nobody else was. The judge opened and closed his mouth a couple of
times. The members of the jury all sat there stunned. Ethan was totally
hysterical. His siblings and his best friend surrounded him and held him close.
The judge
noticed that they left the spectator seating area and were sitting around the
plaintiff table trying to console the inconsolable. “I’ve seen enough.” He
looked towards the jury box and everyone nodded, indicating that they had seen
enough. The video was turned off.

Excerpt
Later on that evening, Jake and I finished our meal and we returned to
the couch with wine and beers in hand. Jake is a masterful griller, cooking
steaks with side salads and corn on the cob. It had been a while since I had
such a filling and well cooked dinner. Most of the time in Chicago, my nights
were Chinese takeout or fast food burgers.
“Ah, now this is nice. You and me, on the sofa, drinking liquor with
sports on the TV. Can’t get any better than this.” Jake popped the cap on his
beer open.
“Yeah, well, the NBA isn’t one of my favorite sports, but I guess it
will have to do. It’s either that or hockey.” I cracked open the Merlot and
poured myself a glass.
“You’re not into either one?
“Nope. Baseball’s my first love. Football is second for me. I love
college and pro.”
“See I hate college football. I think it stems from our alma mater’s
pigskin team getting more recognition than we did.”
“Yeah, and they got all the funding too,” I added with a laugh. “The
NCAA knows college football can command more money than baseball, so they give
them more attention.”
“And they didn’t even deserve it. They went 7-4 last year, for fucking
last in the conference. We went to the playoffs and beat the number one seeded
team.”
“But no one likes college baseball.”
Jake waved his hand and took another swig of beer. “Ah, whatever. I’m
gone anyways, but it still sticks in my craw how they considered as
unimportant.”
“You weren’t irrelevant, just the team. What happened when you got to
single A, by the way? You weren’t seeing the ball, or…”
“I thought we were forgetting about the interview, Rob. Let’s save that
for when we talk on the record.”
“I am. I’m just curious, that’s all.”
“I haven’t got a clue, Rob. I just wasn’t picking up the pitches like I
should’ve.”
“Hm, well I’m glad everything’s going well now. The general manager was
wondering if he’d made the right choice with the pick. I knew you’d get it
together sooner or later.”
“You had faith in me?” Jake caressed my leg through my jeans and flashed
me a wry grin.
Feeling his hands on me again caused the adrenaline to rush through my
veins. I desired nothing more than to attack him on this couch and forget all
about the game on television. “I’ve always
had faith in you.”

Wednesday briefs - Evans Woodworking chapter 9
Chapter 9 of my new Wednesday Brief's story is now on line. You can read it by clicking here.
If you have just come across my blog and would like to read the entire story, you can click here to get to the Wednesday briefs page.
This week I chose the prompt '(insert name here)'s/his/her get-up-and-go got up and went.'
Here is a sneak peek at what you'll find in chapter 9:
The judge placed
a memory card into his viewer and reviewed all of the facts regarding the case
in front of him. Privately, the judge thought with all the improvements to the criminal justice system, the
old-fashioned court system is still the most effective way to deal with
criminals. “Will the prosecuting attorney please make her opening remarks?”
“Thank you, Your
Honor. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, my client, Mr. Ethan Evans was the
victim of a hit-and-run. He suffered a broken back, fractured pelvis, multiple
trauma injuries and a hole cut into his skull. In addition we have irrefutable
evidence that my client was raped multiple times and infected with the HIV
virus by the defendant. I intend to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the
defendant is guilty of all charges and specifications. I am confident that you
will as well, dispensing justice for my client. Thank you.”
“Objection! Irrelevant My client has
already confessed to the hit-and-run.”
“Moves to
motivation, Your Honor.”
“Overruled.” The
judge declared. “Please proceed with your opening statement.”
“Thank you, Your
Honor.

Wednesday briefs - Evans Woodworking chapter 8
Chapter 8 of my new Wednesday Brief's story is now on line. You can read it by clicking here.
If you have just come across my blog and would like to read the entire story, you can click here to get to the Wednesday briefs page.
This week I chose the prompt 'Have a character play a guitar.'
Here is a sneak peek at what you'll find in chapter 8:
Grateful to be
out of the hospital after a prolonged stay, Ethan slowly got out of Chris’s
car. Moving slowly and walking with a weird gait, he ascended the steps and
opened the door to his house. Entering the living room, the first thing he saw
was a huge banner that said “Welcome home Ethan.” Looking around the room he
saw all of his friends and a couple of his repeat customers, some crying tears
of joy and relief that he was alive and on the mend.
Tears were
flowing freely at this demonstration of love and friendship. Everybody carefully
hugged Ethan, telling him how happy they were that he was still alive and in
one piece as they left. Soon it was just him, Chris, Troy and Alicia.
As they settled
in, Alicia began, “Ok, here’s what I know. Patrick is being charged with
hit-and-run, attempted murder, multiple counts of rape, assault with a deadly
weapon, and invasion of privacy. He’s also been charged with threatening to
murder Chris.”
“Assault with a
deadly weapon?” Ethan wanted to know.
